Controlled burns are an important piece to keeping Florida’s ecosystem healthy. Burning away the old growth reveals soil that may have been difficult for seeds to reach, creating new life. They also prevent larger fires from breaking out in the future. Leaving old growth to pile on itself allows an opportunity for a fire to burn faster and get out of hand.
